Why Surge Suppression

A standard device switches from low conductance to high conductance at a pre-determined voltage level, establishing a “fixed clamping level”.  However, if the energy present in the electrical disturbance (surge, transient spike) exceeds the capability of the device, it will fail.  In turn, this causes all of the surge energy below the “fixed clamping level” to pass through to the protected load.

In the Matech suppressor the surge energy is consumed as the voltage rises and instantly begins to dissipate energy contained in a surge or transient at its inception.  It continues to dissipate the remaining energy before the voltage reaches a level sufficient to be destructive or disruptive to the protected load.  The input power efficiency is then enhanced.  Other devices tend to deteriorate as they function while Matech suppressors maintain a constant level of protection.
